Alzheimer’s and Memory Impaired Care
Helping Individuals with Alzheimer’s or Other Memory Impairments
It is our goal that our residents with memory loss experience a happy and stress free life.
Here at Evergreen, we recognize the special needs of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other related memory impairments. In our Reminiscence Hall, our approach to caring for our residents with memory loss is to understand and address all their emotional, mental and spiritual needs as individual. There are three main aspects of our Alzheimer’s Care program: our Reminiscence Program, Project Lifesaver, and, of course, Family Support. Read more about each below!
Evergreen Residence Reminiscence Program focuses on meaningful activities. Our goal is to help maintain independence and quality of life during the progression of Alzheimer’s and related dementia. Reminiscence Program offers activity choices that allow each resident to spend time in ways that can be meaningful and enjoyable to them. Each resident has a Personal Life History completed upon move-in to let us know of individual activities that may be of interest to them. Specially trained caregivers incorporate meaningful activities into daily life. Caregivers are encouraged to facilitate creative activities respecting the uniqueness of each individual. Our program allows individual differences in locale, culture, needs and interests to be accommodated.
It is important to help each resident continue to be involved with their family. Family members are encouraged to participate in the life of their loved one at Evergreen Residence. We want you to take advantage of support groups and participate in service planning meetings to increase your understanding of dementia, and to help us shape how it impacts your loved one and family.
The primary mission of Project Lifesaver is to provide timely response to save lives and reduce potential injury for adults who wander due to Alzheimer’s. The task of searching for wandering or lost individuals with Alzheimer’s is a growing and serious responsibility. Because time is of the essence, every minute lost increases the risk of a tragic outcome. As an added safety, Evergreen Residence is the first in Visalia to adopt in Project Lifesaver, which allows our Alzheimer’s residents to wear a small personal transmitter around the wrist or ankle that emits an individualized tracking signal. In a rare case an Evergreen resident goes missing, our Caregiver notifies our local Project Lifesaver agency, and a trained emergency team responds to the wanderer’s area. Most who wander are found within a few miles from home, and search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes. This technology brings great peace of mind to families and caregivers for this added precaution.
